There are several devices on the market that allow for data logging to USB stick. e.g. ECUMaster ADU dashes.

So buy USB lead, cut off plug and prepare wire ends. Usually 4 wires 2 power and 2 signal.

The problem is the signal wires are often AWG 28, way too small for 99% of connector pins. Most pins are designed for AWG 18-22. Certainly not 28.

So what is the professional way of joining those AWG 28 wires into the loom?

My thoughts would be to splice the stripped end with a small length of thicker AWG 20 or 22 that is a match for the pins.

You could probably buy USB connectors and do the wiring yourself with appropriate 22AWG.

I would splice to thicker wire if needed. I have been known to add a short section of 22 ga wire with the really thin wires into a DTM crimp terminal. It will still pass the pull test.
