what does mean of making the crankshaft ground under size ?

i need the meaning of ground the crankshaft .

thanks

When the crankshaft journals - the parts that fit in the bearings - are worn or damaged, they are ground , metal removed, to give a good journal finish again that will work with the new bearings.

Because metal has been removed, the journals are now smaller, undersized, and require the correct undersized bearings to work with them.
