So I’m currently working on an odd project. It a 76 vett with s13 suspension front and rear with a Honda d16z6 that is turbocharged. The car will be rwd. The issue I’m having is I can’t find any info on what to do transmission wise the d16z6 rotation is counter clockwise opposite of most engines. So what I’m wondering is can I just take something like a t56 get all the adapters made to fit it up and change to a reverse rotation ring and pinion. Is it even possible if it is what’s the downside if it’s not are there any other options? Photo is from early stages of test fitting

Overall, the simplest, and best, option is going to be forgetting that engine and using a different one with the 'correct' rotation direction.

Often we start with what we have lying around the place, and get locked in, mentally, on adapting that instead of taking a step back and reviewing the choice made. At this point, you haven't any major investment in the engine-specific parts, so it's going to be less of an issue.

If you do decide to run the engine, you're going to be running the gearbox in reverse when the thrust bearings, etc, are all designed for the normal rotation - you may even be compromising the internal lubrication. With the diff' you may be able to flip it, but it isn't designed to operate in that manner, and tooth strength and lubrication WILL be compromised. It isn't as simple as having a new ring and pinion made, the carrier/housing will also need to be changed.

Overall, looks like a fun variation in the 'rat rod' tradition, that's sure to upset some folks :-D

Hmmm I see and also figured I have considered using a k series which is a better option all together but iv already did that with my 76f100 the single cam Honda is near a dear to me as they were the first engines that I have ever built so I’m determined to make it work but I want to do things right what about something with Straight cut gears would I be able to get a gear set designed to work in the reverse orientation

I think I've seen the F100 on a couple of YT vid's. Cool truck, if it's the one I'm thinking of.

Yes, I did think of straight cut/spur gears, too, but you're adding a lot of expense to the build, and there's still the rear end to worry about.

Another option may be a custom reverser gearbox between the engine and the gearbox, but again $$$

If you don't want to go the K route again, there are other options, like the V6?
