Hi there, I want to start tuning Subarus and now am in the learning stage then will start to obtain some tools to practice on my own car and hopefully other cars in the future. I have a question regarding external wideband meters. What type of setup did you use when you started tuning other vehicles and how do you connect to the vehicle and to the datalogger? Is it through the sensor bung connected to a part of the exhaust or a pipe connected to the rear of the muffler like on dynos? Do you have a different setup on the road and on the dyno? To connect to a datalogging software is it as simple as connecting the meter using a USB port or com port? I would really appreciate some detailed responses as I'm starting from zero. Thanks.

I bought a AEM Inline Wideband, part number 30-0310. On Subarus, I place the sensor in an additional bung, or you can remove the rear O2 and put it there if you can remove DTCs.

I have 3 ways I connect it to a computer, depending on the car and the software. When using romraider, I use the serial connection, when using COBB I use a Serial to USB adapter, and there is also a 0-5v analog output which I connect to my dyno software as a last resort. You could also connect it via CAN in a standalone ECU if needed, but usually I install a dedicated wideband that will stay in the car in order to have the closeloop capabilities. Of course there is a bit of setup to do in the softwares in order for it to work.

Thanks Frank for your expert response. This will help me out a lot. Cheers.
