I am working on a multi-part bracket to convert my gearbox from rod linkages to a pretty standard 2 cables shifter mecanism. I've imported a push-pull cable from the McMaster-Carr catalog (part #3125k93), but I can't figure out how to setup joints between the threaded part of the cable for the bulkhead nuts and the end of the cable. The end of the cable slides back and forth with a 2" stroke, and it can rotate up to 8 degrees around 2 axis creating a 16 degrees cone.

It's that 16 degree conical rotation I'm not sure how to constrain. Would this be a ball joint? Is it possible?

I may be mis-understanding the query, but it seems a standard clevis or ball-joint is what you need. make sure the sleeve is aligned to the median path of the end used.

You typically use a rod-end type joint with those cables. So from McMaster-Carr, try this:

My question was not clear enough. This cable will be used in the real world with a rod-end screwed at the end. What I am trying to achieve in Fusion 360 is simulating the possible movement of the cable when the rod-end is bolted to another component. I'm not sure which type of Fusion 360 joint (or mate for the Solidworks folks) to use in the software to simulate this.

Hi Eric,

The only joint allowing for rotation about 2 axis is a ball joint, so you'll need to use one of these and inside the joint tool you can set the joint motion limits to match those you mentioned.

The issue is a ball joint doesn't allow for the sliding motion.

You could either add 2 joints between the components, which is possible but rarely works how you want, or you could try creating an intermediate part like a sleeve so there is a sliding joint between the outer sleeve and intermediate part and then a ball joint between the cable and intermediate part.
