I’m in the process of installing a full Motec package on my track car. M150, PDM 30, C127, etc. I’ve added the I/O upgrade to the C127 as well as Dash Creator and I have several sensors that I’d like to log at a higher frequency (200 hz or so), like suspension pots.

I obviously will need to upgrade my logging package, but I’m looking for feedback from others. Would I be better off upgrading logging on the C127 or would it be better to upgrade the M150. I’m leaning towards the C127 because I will have sensors like Izze IR tire temp sensors that don’t have an available resource to assign in the firmware package I’m running.

My only concern about not upgrading logging on the M150, if that will mean that I’ll be limited to low sample rates on the data sent via CAN to the C127 from the M150.

Thanks!

Assuming you're using GPR firmware ECU transmit is scheduled at either 10hz 50hz or 100hz depending on the message ID.

As an example Engine Speed is broadcast at 100hz in 0x640, which is reasonably fast.

It's worth noting that the items available for logging in the M1 also have a max log rate which varies depending on the item, in the case of Engine Speed this is 200hz.

I would suggest starting with adding logging to your C127 then you could add logging to your M150 down the track if you feel you need it.

Thanks for the reply Scott. Your response actually prompted me to double check logging on my M150 and looks like I added Level 2 when I ordered it. So, that's a plus. I'm going to add L1 and L2 logging to my C127 and add the USB logging cable. Being able to just pull out the flash drive when I come back to the pits sounds pretty convenient.

My plan is going to be to use the C127 for lap/driver analysis, and I'll log limited ECU parameters through the dash, that are more critical or important, to go along with the other analysis data like GPS, IMU, suspension pots, etc. Then I'll use the L2 logging on the M150 to log extensive engine and powertrain functions. Assuming I can have both the dash and ECU logging at the same time, that seems like a good way to cover all my bases. That way my "normal" analysis will be with the data on the flash drive from the dash, and then if I notice something engine related in that data or if I experienced some sort of mechanical issue on track, I can pull the log from the M150 for deeper mechanical analysis.

Does that sound like a solid plan?

The C127 doesn't have tiered logging levels, you can enable onboard logging then USB logging is separately additional to this.

Everything else you said sounds good.
