hi. what spring stiffness is being assumed when defining the amount of travel needed? if the springs are stiffer, then you can have a smaller shock travel. but then, in order to know that, the spring stiffness is required. it's a bit of an endless loop isn't it O.o?? there is a section that's basically a natural frequency/stiffness "cheat sheet". where does it come from? for example, why are circuit cars' stiffness usually between 2 and 3 hz? what sorts of things are you looking for when defining the stiffness required? thank u in advance

You may need to go over the fundamentals a few more times, but in short - if one knows the acceptable travel, the loadings on the spring, and the extended and compressed lengths of the spring, one can then make an estimate of the spring rate - you're looking at it backwards.

When you have the known suspension travel, you can work out the damper travel for it's mounting points.

2-3 Hzs is a good point between suspension, and body, control and comfort. Lower tends to make the vehicle less responsive but more comfortable, higher makes the vehicle more responsive but the driver more uncomfortable.
