Hi all,
I am wiring my hydro-electric power steering pump up and i want to check i am on the right path with it.
The pump has 4 wires. Power, earth and two trigger wires. The two trigger wires need to see 12v volt to trigger the pump.
It is said that they can draw high amps up to 70a and to use a 70a fuse.
My plan was to have the main power wire from batt or alt with a 70a fuse, to a relay which then goes to the pump. The two trigger wires on pump from a 12v source nearby the pump or from batt. The trigger from the relay (86) from a nearby power source or batt. Then 85 on the relay doing to a DPO on my haltech elite 1500. So the relay is switched on the low side into the DPO.
Can you guys see any problem with this? Is it better to pull the power for the pump directly from the ALT instead of the batt?
Any input would be appreciated.

Hi mate.
I'm a newbie here but I was looking to do an Astra electric pump conversion on my Commodore and came across this article from an Aussie car forum. If you look to "part 3: wiring" he mentions that one of the two trigger wires needs to be powered a second or so after the first, which makes the pump spool up almost instantly. I haven't done this conversion yet, but it seems to relate directly to what you're asking about. He also shows which wires are which.
