I have an application where I cannot possibly avoid requiring a flex joint in a pre-turbo exhaust pipe. It's going to get hot, and it's going to be pressurized. The turbo is mounted in a fixed location, not supported by the exhaust in any way, no worries there.

Option 1: Braided stainless inside and out:

I won't use this type, I've had them fail in a downpipe before where the inner braid came apart.

Option 2: Braided stainless outer with a "stainless steel interlock liner:

Never used one of these, looks a bit more robust. Reviews?

Option 3: Bellows with solid inner:

The OE application uses a product pretty similar to this. I'm leaning towards this option unless others say the option 2 is better. Other suggestions are welcome! Cost is not a concern beyond something silly.

I think the flex bellows are the only way to go. Here is another source:

John,

Option 1 has way more range of motion than options 2 or 3, but I'd never use it pre turbo.

Option 2 has been used pre turbo. Depending on how far things try to move and how much exhaust pressure is run, it may or may not last a long time. They usually work pretty well by the rear of a downpipe.

Option 3 doesn't move much, so perhaps order option 3 and see if you think it has sufficient range of motion for your application.

The range of motion each has also varies significantly by length, so for example within option 2, a 2.5" diameter unit that's 8" long will have a lot more range of motion than 4" long unit.
