I'm just doing final assembly on the con rods and I've noticed that the the locating tabs on the ACL bearings (6B8100H - STD) actually allow for some 'play' on install in the rod and cap - meaning that it's possible to assemble the bearing slightly off-centre by a small amount if you weren't paying attention. I've checked the bearings that came out of the engine and they are exactly the same. I can obviously centre everything on install, it just struck me as odd there was this play available (it's a very small amount we're not talking about loads) so I wanted to check this is normal. It looks like it might just be part of the process for how ACL make the tab - it kind of 'cuts' the outside edge in a bit. I've already dry-assembled and checked oil clearances - absolutely everything is spot on, standard con rods.
Cheers!
It's not uncommon. I personally try and centralise the bearings but if there is a slight misalignment between the upper and lower shell it really won't affect the operation or reliability.
