What's the purpose of the CAN bus as the core with thermo cable? This throws me off because my car uses two knock sensors and cam and crank which the cam is the shortest and the crank the longest
Normally you put the odd cables in the core to make sure the outer layers are homogeneous.
So a typical core consists of maybe shielded cables, some twisted pairs like CAN, maybe thermocouple cable. You don't want such cables in the outer cores usually.
You need to keep the them in the core so you can build a nice twisting loom. As Christoph Jonen mentioned.
