Hi,

With the centerline calculated on Honda Bseries engine, am I correct that on:

Intake Cams:

Factory Centerline= 108°

Record/Calculated= 114°

- If recorded/calculated Centerline is higher number than the factory cam spec Centerline you Advance the intake cam gear.

-If recorded/calculated Centerline is lower number than the factory cam spec Centerline you Retard the intake cam gear.

Exhaust Cams:

Factory Centerline= 115°

Recorded/Calculated= 118°

-If recorded/calculated Centerline is higher number than the factory cam spec Centerline you Retard the exhaust cam gear.

-If recorded/calculated Centerline is lower number than the factory cam spec Centerline you Advance the exhaust cam gear..

Hello

Compare the centerline to the value listed on the Cam Card. If different than the listed value, the cam is either advanced or retarded. For example, if the intake centerline is listed as 107° and you find it at 103°, the cam is advanced 4°.

Regards Ross

Uh, yes - I had to read that a couple of times to get what you were asking.

With the intake you're measuring between the 'centre-line*' and TDC, so higher number of degrees is advanced and needs to be brought back - or vice versa.

With the exhaust you're measuring between the 'centreline*' and BDC, so a higher number of degrees is retarded and needs to be brought forward - or vice versa.

*An asymmetric camshaft profile, and/or drivetrain geometry, may mean the valve lift centreline is different from the camshaft lobe centreline - this is why you need to make sure you are using the correct proceedure for the camshaft and engine in question. The camshaft should have come with a timing and set-up card for the correct procedure.
