I’d appreciate any help setting up the timing for a stock 2JZ on emu black. If anyone can please guide me. I believe the stock trigger wheel is a 12 teeth wheel with no missing tooth but I am not sure. I don’t know what the first trigger tooth and the trigger angle should be
also the firing order of the engine some people on other forums suggest a different firing order that the norm for a 6 cylinder engine
the timing light isn’t helping either as even if i get the timing light to hit the mark, the car runs horribly until i choose a different 1st trigger tooth number
Would greatly appreciate your help as this is the first time I’ve ran into a problem like this one. I am used to the 36-2 after market trigger wheel
Non VVTI JZ's are 12 tooth on the crank and two single tooth on the cam. You only need 1 of these sensors connected. Front vs rear will change your timing values. 36-2 is better and it is an option to swap trigger wheels, but requires taking the timing belt and parts in front of it off.
1-5-3-6-2 is the only firing order I know of for every Inline 6, JZ included. If the ignition outputs are wired output 1 = cylinder 1, and no offset in the ignition settings then that's correct.
I've seen maps where someone built in an offset for some reason, perhaps that's been passed around and caused confusion.
Changing the first trigger tooth should jump about 30 degrees. Ignition timing needs to be locked, ideally set to 10* and the timing light should flash on the 10* line on the timing marks.
Post your trigger settings or better the whole map and we can advise better.
Hello, i've just finished 4A-FE engine with Stealth PCM 1JZ-GTE tuned for 4-cyinder engine. I have 12 teeth for crank and 1 for cam. NE+ and G2. As i take my cam and crank signals from the 4A distributor i got 512 degrees BTDC that brings me right at 10 degree mark on the crank pulley. Only problem i've faced was ignition retard with rpm increase. I've fixed that in Tuner Studio and now everything works great. Maybe you have some issue with short pulse adjustment or other things are to be checked? My friend was facing idle hunting with 1000cc injectors on 1JZ-GTE non-VVTI until he got short pulse fixed.
Thanks for your reply. I finally got the car to start with first trigger tooth = zero and trigger angle 30
when i checked with the timing light that landed me perfectly where i wanted to be
however i’d like the ignition angle to be in a higher range
Sincr i have 12 tooth trigger wheel
each tooth is 30 degrees apart from the other
meaning if i were to change the trigger angle to 60 instead of 30
i’d have to decrease the first trigger tooth number by 1
if the first trigger tooth is zero
should i make it 12 instead order to achieve trigger angle of 60?
