Hi fellas

Just looking at the recommended intercooler sizing/flow rates for HP brackets.

Does this transfer over to the same cfm flow rates req in a high powered turbo deisel application. Namely 3L 6cyl

This is probably the wrong forum, but at a minimum you're going to need to give an estimated peak power level, an more specific engine details, as from that an airflow can be estimated, the boost levels, and the airflow and heat rejection required.

Not something in my experience, but as a general rule, the bigger the better - there may be a small loss in throttle response, but for maximising charge density for peak torque/power it's usually the best option.

End tank design, and the matrix (the heat exchanger part) is also very important, as minimising the pressure drop can have a significant benefit.

It's a 3L BMW turbo deisel, straight 6, with a factory hp figure of 218hp. (M57N)

I'll soon be at almost double that at 400hp and 850nm up from tue current 320hp.and 690nm.

I'll probably have to have a chat to our tuner about it, as there dosnt seem to be much desiel specific info around...or mor specifically what info transfers over to high performance desiels and what dosnt

Sorry it took a while to get to this. The volumetric flow rate / HP requirements for diesels will be greater, so these values we gave don't really transfer.

Rough rule of thumb for compressor airflow is 10lb/min of mass flow rate for 100hp on gasoline.

I'm not sure of this value for diesel, but let's say it's 50% more for example, this means the diameter of the tubing ends up being about 25% bigger for the same flow velocity.

I'd say just step up size for diesel and you should be there or thereabouts.
