How do you calculate the cycle time of a rotary?
Unlike a piston engine which requires 2 revolutions to complete a cycle, a rotary engine completes its cycle in 1 revolution.
Due to the rotor spinning at 1/3 of the eccentric shaft we will have 1 combustion event per 360 degrees. This means the cycles per minute match revs per minute.
If we use 3000 rpm this means there is 3000 cycles per minute. The 3000/60 seconds = 50 cycles every second.
To work out how long each cycle takes 1/50 = 0.02 seconds or 20ms
Another way to do this quickly on a rotary engine is 60/rpm so 60/3000 = 0.02 seconds
