Hello everyone.. My friend have a subaru wrx 2002 ej20 engine.. The car wont start when cranking but only start when the car is pushed by some friend and start. Any ideas what might be causing this issue?
Theres not a lot to go off. But if i had to guess... sounds like your idle and cranking is out of whack now you've removed the TGV's.
By default they are open, which is how they are when the engine is running. And i'd imagine during a push start.
However, during cranking, the ECU is commanding them to close. Now you've removed them, you likely need to change your fueling or idle settings to account for the lack of TGV's acting as a restrictor.
My first guess would be that you have too much air in the cylinder compared to before without enough fuel.
So i'd start by increasing the cranking fuel amount, probably in 10% increments and see if it allows it to start, it may start with a higher idle but then should settle quickly. Thats fine, if you wanted to sort that later you may need to fiddle with the idle control valve settings to reduce the air, and then reduce the fueling accordingly to get it back to a more normal start
Better to upload a log and the tune file.
When you get the car to start (pushing) it runs fine?
What happens if you reconnect the TGV sensors alone?
