I’m having an issue with my 99 Lexus GS300 build, it’s an NA/T 2JZ GE VVTI. I’m getting a code for the VVT (code P1656) and the car runs but it’s running rich. I’m using an EMU Black as a piggy back, with the pnp harness for my specific application, I’ve check all my other settings, timing, fueling, trigger angles and they all see to be correct. But when looking at the log under the preset “VVTI” and watching the cam 1 angle compared to the Cam 1 angle target, the actual can angle shows that it’s -9 when idling and the target is zero. Of course, when I saw the code for the VVTI I suspected the solenoid but when testing the output it works I can hear it clicking on and off and when removing it and applying 12v I can see it moving open and closed. Is it normal for the actual angle and target angle to not match when just idling? Even when accelerating they don’t quite match getting as close to 1° difference but when returning to idle it goes back to -9 and target is 0. If anyone could help me out, or point me in the right direction, I would appreciate it a lot. I did service the VVTI gear years ago before actually first starting the car, maybe I didn’t service it correctly? And would this VVTI code cause the car to run rich? I’m still quite new to tuning so apologies for any ignorance towards the topic. I will attach photos to try to show what I mean. I am also using the base map from ECU masters for my platform, adjusted for my injectors and stuff.
