Good day, I have a quick question and would really appreciate some feedback. I’m currently constructing a wire harness for a 600hp Toyota 1G-FE and have some concerns about my wiring choices. I’m using all Tefzel / M22759/32 wire throughout the harness. For the coil power supply (Bosch R8 coils, part number 0221604800), I’m running 14 AWG from the relay through the second layer of the harness as the main power feed. Layer also includes: Another 14 AWG for the starter solenoid, 22 AWG twisted pair for CAN communication, 18 AWG for injector power supply, three 22 AWG Tefzel shielded wires (TSB-2C) for the cam and 2 WB knock sensors and the core is a single 2 core shielded for crank sensor. Back to the coil power question: I’m feeding power with a 14 AWG wire into two 16 AWG wires that run through a Deutsch DT connector, which then split into three 18 AWG wires each — powering six coils in total. My concern is whether this configuration is sufficient to handle the current draw for the coils under load and starter solenoid when cranking.

What is the actual maximum coil current draw and dwell time at any reasonable operating voltage? The average coil current will be 1/2 of the maximum and only times three dwell periods over each engine revolution, so the total duty cycle is likely to be very small. I think you will be surprised by the actual current requirements, and will find that your wiring design will be quite sufficient.

Your current requirements for a starter solenoid may be much greater than the coils, what is your plan for that? I would use 14 AWG wiring to the solenoid if possible.

Thanks I appreciate your response. I stated that I will using 14awg for Starter solenoid as part of second layer.

Sorry, I missed that -- even went looking for it.
