Hey guys,

Probably simple question. My Cam and Crank sensors are three wire and I remember from the class that engine speed and position should be shielded. I'm pretty sure I know the answer, just want to confirm.

With that said should it be a twisted and shielded 3 wire branch for each sensor?

Thanks,

Sean

Sensor wires from crank and cam should be shielded correctly

i have +12v unshielded to my sensors and ground/trigger input in a shielded 2-wire cable with shield in the attached to ECU and unconnected in the engine bay.

Thanks for the reply SnitchO. Any particular reason you did a twist pair of the ground and signal wire? I assume it's due to the magnetic field created by the +12V wire wanting to be shielded away from the signal wire.

Mainly because power supplys does not react particular bad to EMI as the signal wire.

indeed in a high performance drag car i would shield every wire, since they often have higher level of EMI then a road car. Now i'm not an expert but this is my 2 cents on the subject.

Should ground go to sensor Ground or to power ground?

Sensor ground for both the drain wire and the sensor on all of my projects.
