Discusión y preguntas relacionadas con el curso Cableado práctico de deportes de motor - Nivel Club
With the video "Preparing Documentation" that's in the "Practical Wiring Harness Design Skills" section of "Practical Wiring - Club Level" a file named "Sample Wiring Planning Document" is provided. Several of the tabs in the document have a column heading named "Code" that has 3 columns below it that are colors. The meaning of those colors and what they are used for doesn't seem to appear anywhere. Can someone explain what the Code is used for?
Hi Emilio,
The "Code" section of that wiring document refers to wire idents, which are small coloured bands of heatshrink applied to the ends of wires for identification.
The code is based on the MIL-STD-681 military wire identification standard, where each colour represents a number. These colour combinations can then be referenced in the documentation to uniquely identify a wire.
For example, in the sample document, Pin A10 - Sensor 5V Supply has the ident code Red-Red-Grey, which corresponds to 2-2-8 under the MIL-STD-681 standard.
This provides a quick visual way to identify wires, which is especially useful when using a single wire colour throughout the harness. Rather than relying on wire colour, you can simply read the heatshrink ident and cross reference it with your documentation.
