Hi,

Saw "Piston To Bore Clearance" from "Engine Building Fundamentals" course. Also tried to find recommendations from CP, but saw only recommendations about rings gap.

My project:

- Swap 2jz-gte to the Mazda Rx8.

- CP forged pistons 87mm (8.5) compression rate. SC7461

- Brain Crower rods.

- ACL\ARP

- Garret GTX 3076R Gen2

Target:

It should be drift car with 600hp on the engine. But also it should be possible to use a car as a daily car. It shouldn't be nitrous\methanol\e85 etc. Just regular petrol from the gas station.

Info:

I had built engine, but the mechanic started the engine without oil and all pistons were corrupted. Now I have to build the engine one more time with new pistons :(. Previously it was 0.09mm wall to piston clearance, but I am not sure that it is enough.

Questions:

- I am going to use CP carillo forged pistons 87 mm. Which wall to pistons clearance should I use for my purposes? Is 0.08-0.09mm is enough?

- There is not enough place under the hood. Is it possible to tilt the engine to the back for 2-3 degree or even more? Or the engine should be installed only horizontal?

You should have received a spec sheet with your CP pistons and this details the piston to cylinder wall clearance. For the 2JZ it will be around 0.0035" which is 0.09 mm. This should be sufficient for your application although a lot of engine builders would add 0.0005" to this for safety.
