I have had my 1990 REV1 SW20 G-Limited MR2 for 17 years now. I purchased it to do motorsport events like hillclimbs and autocross but after a few events, life changed so I headed in the direction of a nice street car.
Suspension and brake upgrades, wheels and tyres, but no engine mods. The plan was to swap the GEN2 3SGE with a GEN3 or 4 3SGTE. Along comes 2020 and I find an ST215 Caldina GT-T to extract the engine from.
I proceed to disassemble the engine planning to just do an external refresh but then as this is my forever car, a 307,000km engine should get a refresh. So I opened it up and went fully into new forged CP pistons and GEN3 3SGTE rods to get around the weak skinny rod problem these GEN4 engines have.
4 years later I swapped the 3SGE for the GEN4 3SGTE and it's been great since.
I built the wiring harness myself after learning how earlier but used some of the HPA courses to improve my skills and find decent tools to make things better.
