Hi Folks,

I am a bit stumped here so would appreciate if anyone has ideas that could be causing my starting problems. Engine is a Suzuki Hayabusa fitted to a lotus Seven style car.

The engine starts only when the battery is 100% charged and I get a cranking rpm of over 300 rpm. If I have other loads on while cranking and the rpm is something like 275 rpm there is no spark generated. My theory is that the Fueltech ECU needs to see a certain threshold in RPM before enabling outputs. To test this theory I removed 1 spark plug (and disconnected the injector) to see if the reduced compression would allow the cranking RPM to rise and maybe get some signs of firing. Engine starts right away on the 3 cylinders. Put the plug back in and the igniter does not fire. Trigger wheel is 24-1 with a 2 wire VR pickup.

I checked on other bikes I have and 200 to 300 rpm cranking seems about normal.

Been through the Fueltech menus and cannot see anywhere that a minimum crank speed can be set.

Ideas ?

Thanks

Brian

Signal amplitude from a VR sensor increases with engine speed.

The faster you move the tooth past the sensor the larger the pulse.

You need to adjust the trigger levels for the sensor.
