Curious if anyone has used a thermal imaging camera to compare header temperatures while balancing individual runner throttle bodies.

I would think the leaner cylinders should show higher temperature profiles on the header.

EGT is highest at stoich, if you go richer or leaner from there EGT will get cooler. So if you have some EGT's that are cooler than others how do you know if that is due to being richer or leaner?

The correct tool for balancing ITB's is a manometer, syncrometer or stethoscope.

Agreed on the use of a syncrometer, but when those are set properly, could you not fine tune the cylinder balance (fuel settings) to match temperature ranges

You also mention stethoscope - curious the procedure for using one

I dont think you will see any improvement over just balancing with the syncrometer, I have never had any trouble getting the engine to idle smooth and happy by just equalizing airflow. On the few engines I have tuned that had individual EGT's, the temps are all miles away from each other at idle and that is with a single throttle so I dont think it is a very relevant measure.

It is just an old school balancing technique, you balance air flow using sound, moving your listening device between adjacent stacks (often something as crude as a piece of fuel hose against your ear). A throttle that is more open makes more of a "hiss" sound, a more closed throttle you can hear the individual pulses more - tick - tick - tick...
