Hey
I have a small project for my BMW e30 ( M50 engine ) and for my friend BMW e36 (M50 engine ) i want to install aftermarket gauges like for ( water temperature / oil pressure / etc ) but i have a couple of questions
1- Can i buy a sensor alone and then buy the gauge and connect them together ?
2- I want to make OLED gauge with Arduino but I don’t know what the sensor i need like do i need a special sensor that can communicate with the Arduino or any sensor car work ?
3- Can i use OEM sensor and connect it with aftermarket gauges like for ( RPM / KPH ) ?
4- How can i take the signal from the sensor do i need to take the signal from ECU or from the sensor itself ?
5- If the Arduino project can be done where can I learn to make it ?
6- How can i wire them together ? I saw some videos to how to make the light with switch light and how power the gauges
7- How the sensors and gauges communicate with each other ?
Hi Fares,
It all depends on the level of gauges and sensors you buy.
the cheaper end will be fixed calibration to the supplied sensor but better quality kit will be configurable.
Generally all sensors work on a 0-5v range and they will be supplied with a voltage calibration curve to input into whatever gauge or display you have, this goes for loggers and processors such as Arduino’s too.
