Good Evening Chaps,

I'm having issues with a 3d scan of a chassis (x_t format). I cannot, for the life of me, find a way to to separate the chassis into its component tubes to allow editing.

Could anyone offer their assistance and explain how to do it in Fusion of Inventor please? I have tried split face and split body but cannot figure it out.

Thanks in advance.

****Update - I have uploaded the file for looking at if you don't mind *****

Phil

That's a strange format for a 3D scan, it doesn't look like a mesh file either, and it's showing as a solid body rather than a mesh in your browser.

So you should be able to use split body, or split face tools using the faces of the other tube.

However if you are looking at making modifications then you're going to get the most flexibility from recreating/reverse engineering the chassis. It'll be quite a process but you might only need to do one section - depending on your project.

I've done some webinars on 3D sketching, using the pipe tool and last week on notching - so check those out.

My inital thoughts are that you could create an axis down the centre of the tube, then make a 3D sketch and "include 3D geometry" with that axis, then sketch out the centre lines where you want them and bring it to life with the pipe tool.

Hopefully that points you in the right direction.
