Crash Test Dummy Monster Truck Build

This is a thread for the build up of the Crash Test Dummy Monster Truck. After 6 long years of building, I finally was able to compete and race my new build in Saskatoon, Canada but the build is still far from being complete. I figured this thread would be a good way to show the build from start to finish.

To start off, a little bit about myself. My name is Dallas, I've been a fan of monster trucks and offroad racing since I was two years old and always wanted to grow up to be a monster truck driver. I am currently a monster truck announcer and occasional driver for other teams.

For those who are new to monster trucks, The events usually consist of 3-4 competitions that are usually scored/judged, timed, or bracket race and frequently the results are combined to determine a single overall winner. Competitions are usually include Bracket Racing and Freestyle along with either Timed Racing, Donut Competition, Best Trick, Two Wheel Skills, Wheelie Competition, and/or Long Jump Competition.

The Vehicles used in competition consist of a tubular chassis, fiberglass body,66x43 Inch tall tires, 26-30 inches of suspension travel, 4 wheel hydraulic steering, and the large displacement motors are fueled by methanol and equipped with an 8-71 supercharger that is 10% overdriven producing 1100-1500 horsepower.

First part is about the tubular chassis. All started with pile of 2 inch DOM tubing, the chassis was my first really big welding and fabricating project.The tube work was actually the easy part, all the tabs, mounts and brackets ended up being the most time consuming part. After a few months everything began to take shape.

That is one big project, well done on completing it!

I sometimes watch it on the TV, seems like the drivers get more of a pounding than the trucks...

Thanks Gord! It definetly is quite the beating inside the truck but not as bad as you'd think. There's so much safety involved, between the 5 point ratchet harness, containment seats, and neck restraints the driver is pretty much one with the truck.

Pretty impressive mate, they are freaking nuts.
