Hi!
How come you use only half of the piston area for calculation?
What to do with the calculator when using single piston calipers in the rear?
Hi Magnar, this is essentially due to the pistons on each side opposing each other, and how the fluid is displaced and therefore the piston travels during application.
When using a single piston sliding type caliper, we still just use the total piston area on one side of the caliper. Which of course is simply the area of that one piston. For a sliding caliper, the piston will end up traveling further than the equivalent 2 pot fixed caliper as the caliper body moves backward on the piston side pulling the opposing side against the disc.
As Connor said, single piston but double the travel in the caliper.
