Ring lands do not by themselves prevent detonation they merely support the ring in the piston while the piston ring travels up and down the bore sealing compression above it and controlling oil from passing the piston into the compression area, the ring land can suffer from detonation damage caused by a poor flame front and detonation or pre-ignition,
this intern will stop the rings from doing there job
