Hi everyone.

I have an rb25det that I am having the cylinders boared to first oversize.

I want to use a torque plate for this.

I will be getting the block decked and head machineed aswell, so between that process and tolerance stacking on the rotating assembly, I wont know my piston to deck clearance until machine work is done.

Therefore I won't know what thickness of MLS headgasget to get.

I know the torque plate will require a head gasket.

So my question is can I use a good condition/new oem head gasket for the torque plate machining? Then switch to a MLS that is the correct thickness for final engine assembly.

.

I never dealt with RB engines but my experience with using torque plate for 4g63 and 4g64 engine is that it makes absolutely no difference what gasket you are going to use. The difference makers are the short block heigh and type of head studs or bolts (stock, ARP, oversize Cosworth etc).

Hi Shota

Appreciate the reply.

I am using arp studs

I might not have worded my question correctly.

I don't want to order a Mls head gasket before I know what thickness I need., And I wont know the thickness until machining is complete,

So I was going to use an oem composite gasket just for the torque plate boaring /honing .

Is this acceptable?

When I rebore 86.5mm cylinder to 87mm on 4g64 I use stock 86.5 mm bore gasket as sacrificial material. I believe you should be fine.

As Shota said. You're trying to reproduce the possible distortion of the bores from the forces applied by the fasteners. Use the ARP torque values and lubrication they recommend, so you can best replicate the forced the block will be subject to.

Thanks for the advice Gentlemen.

Engine will be off to the machine shop soon .
