Hi guys, does anyone have any advice on a crimp tool for doing battery cables?

Stuck between a manual hex type (these seem to commonly leave "ears" on the crimp as they come in at an angle), hydraulic hex type (either really expensive or troublesome it seems), or a punch type (not sure if these make as good a crimp as a hex type?). Have ruled out the hammer operated punch type as they seem pretty inconsistent.

Advice appreciated. I won't use it often so ideally not something super expensive.

Thanks,

Jake

I see you didn't get a reply. So you probably got it sorted.

I bought a hydraulic hex crimps after my stamp type prove no use for larger crimps.

Risked getting a cheap one and so far it has been great, perfect neat crimps on all ring terminals as well as Radlock connectors.

Appreciate the response Ian. I ended up with a hammer type tool that I put in a hydraulic press instead of hammering, worked quite well for what I needed. Also got a DMC HX4 but dies are proving hard to find!

Hello Jake,

As you mentioned dies for the HX4, I recently found out that Racespec in the USA offers 2x dies for ring terminals. The bigger the HX4 will do is 6AWG though. Here's the link if it can helps :
