Hi guys,

I'm trying to connect a temperature sensing sub-harness to THT leads on components that have Through-hole type PCB leads; I've got 4x 2 pin thermistors and 4x 3-pin TO-92 digital temp sensors.

Is solder & heatshrink the only option here? I haven't tried crimping but I don't get the feeling it will weld like a normal copper wire-to-wire crimp...

Any suggestions?

No room for a PCB and I've got over 100 of these to make so ideally nothing crazy expensive/labour intensive.

Thanks,

Kealan

Solder or crimp will be fine - the through hole legs are made from the same material and plating as is common for crimped wires so you should have no drama achieving a sound crimp. Either option is going to need equally serious strain relief so I would think solder is the easiest and most compact. The whole junction will really need to be potted if it is to survive in an automotive environment - or at bare minimum encapsulate in something rigid like SCL.

Cheers Adam,

Looking at the space constraint I think i'll go for potted solder as a first attempt & SCL failing that.
