Hey guys. First time wiring a management system by myself , altho I do have electrical knowledge. I was wondering if, the car is currently cable throttle but I do want to upgrade to dbw in the near future.

My question is, on the elite diagram it shows to use AVI 2,3,4 and 5 for DBW. leaving me with only 2x Avi's left. I have a few pressure sensors in the engine bay I want to monitor but not enough Avi's left. Can I use Spi's as Avi's?

I'm also running a Haltech Ic7 and keypad along with the elite 2500.

Any help will be appreciated

Thank you

Hey mate,

I just had a flick around in the software and you can use unassigned SPIs as analogue 5v inputs but...

One thing to be aware of though is that in the Elite ECU, the pull up's on the SPI inputs are 10k whereas on the dedicated AVI inputs pullups are only 1K. Depending on what you are connecting this may be a factor. Also, Haltech's Voltage to Temperature calibrations are not valid on the SPI inputs.

There are a couple of alternative ways you can go about this, depending on what you want to connect you can utilize the additional AVI Inputs in your IC7 Dash (there are 9 available) that can be broadcast over the CAN network, but if you have utilized all of these already it may be worth adding an IO expander or a PD16.

If you are utilizing oem wiring for the power management side of things related to the ECU, then use the I/O expander. this will perform the duties at moderate cost. However, if you are wiring the engine and the power items related to the ECU I would seriously consider the PD16, not only will you get some additional AVI'S but you also get a lot more functionality and the ability to ditch a lot of fuses and relays in the car giving you a much more versatile system and allow you to get more functionality from your keypad. each button on the keypad can perform more than one function.

Whichever way you go the only thing I would say is DO NOT run the Avi's for the DBW system over CAN as this may pose some safety issues. Always wire these directly to the ECU.

Hope this helps

Thank you mate! Wow answers all my questions. I didn't even think of the ic7 Avi's. That will certainly make it easier. Much appreciated. I will look into pd16 as a future item. Thanks again!
