Hello all,
Great webinar on con rod balancing. I'm building a stroked 351w using Eagle forged crankshaft and rods .I've weighed the big ends and these are my averaged weights:
456.5
456.6
456.4
456.3
456.7
454.1
457.2
457.2
My question is, to reduce the amount of material to be removed could I mate the heaviest and lightest rods to go on the same crank journal and balance the average weight of a pair of connecting rods. It would be similar to matching heaviest piston with the lightest ring pack .Thanks
Sorry for the delay getting back to you. While I can understand your reasoning with matching the heaviest/lightest conrods, this isn't an ideal way to go about the task. You're better to balance the rods as described. Assuming you have a reasonably beefy rod, you should be able to get the rod weights within a gram I would think. That being said it is quite a wide spread out of the box and certainly more than I'd expect to see from a quality rod design.
