What thickness and size stainless slip plates do you recommend? I was thinking 0.7mm at 300x300mm would this be to thin?
Hi Rowan,
I'm not sure the thickness is too critical as long as they are well lubricated. 0.7mm will be just fine I would say. The ones we used in the Wheel Alignment Course are ~1.4mm thick each.
I would expect there will be two things to consider, the stiffness and flatness of the base plate/surface, and the ability of the top plate to conform to it and maintain the lubricant film.
As such, I would expect a top plate would need to be stiff enough to help distribute the load, yet be flexible enough to conform - as such, I expect either to work well, perhaps with grease instead of oil, though?
Thanks Gord, from memory in the course we recommend using grease between the plates. That's one of the options we use here in our workshop.
