Cuéntanos un poco sobre ti. ¿Qué coches te interesan?, ¿de dónde eres? y ¿por qué te interesa aprender a tunear?
49 years old, fabricator, tuner, engineer. I own a 1991 MR2 Turbo I've had since 1999 that my father purchased when it was 1 year old in 1992. It was all stock when I got the car from him. I have a BS in Mechanical Engineering as well and have worked in design engnieering for Freightliner Trucks (Daimler Trucks North America) right after I got out of college. My first car was a carbureted 1967 Ford Galaxie with a 390 FE big block and the car I learned a lot of car knowledge on before learning about EFI and turbos on the MR2.
I've lived in the Portland, Oregon greater area in the United States most of my life until I moved to Spokane, Washington in late 2021 where I still live today.
Been tuning professionally since 2005. The only tuning class I ever took previously was EFI101 from EFIUniversity in 2003. I Specialize in 3SGTE engines and the MR2 turbo platform, but have tuned just about everything one can think of at this point (no Lamborghinis yet). I'm Holley EFI certified having taken their three courses around 2021 to get the cert - more of learning their software than how to tune, but you always gain nuggets in any class. I was the North American distributor for the MR2 Turbo/Celica Alltrac for the Hydra Nemesis EMS from 2010 until that company sold in 2018 to a new owner, at which time I switched over to Link ECU as the primary ecu I tune. I tuned HP Tuners on GM vehicles and have done a few Mopars. Lots of Megasquirts in all kinds of things (Porsches to Miatas). Some old chip tuning stuff from the 80s to early 90s. Moates Quarterhorse for 5.0L Fords. Have tuned a couple Haltech, MoTeC, and verious other ecu flavors over the years (I'm open to trying to tune anything). Have tuned the most on MR2s and celicas equipped with 3SGTES, as well as: Supras with 2JZs and older 7MGTEs, RB series engines in Skylines, BMWs, Miatas, Subarus, SR20DETs in Nissans, Miatas (NA/NB), one professional formula drift car (2JZ equipped). I currently own an AWD dynojet chassis dyno (2WD from 2014-2017 when I added a second roller and a load control retarder).
I also fabricate parts and build engines for the MR2 Turbos and Celicas. My current dyno record was 1843whp with a twin turbo viper running MoTeC (tuned by John Reed Racing remotely from across town). My personal highest hp MR2 build was 850whp in 2015 (world record at the time). I started remote tuning around 2016, and have tuned cars all over the world at this point.
I know there are holes in my knowledge, and I am fairly comfortable that I know what I don't know, so I joined here to help fill in some of the gaps.
Wow. I'm impressed. First by your great resume. Secondly bu you saying that there are wholes in your knowledge. Admting that indicates very professional approach when truth comes first and is more important than just reputation.
Do you do DIY head porting?
Yes, I have done some porting and polishing myself but don’t claim to be any kind of authority on it. I defer to those who use flow benches for anything very important as flow quality and velocity is often more critical than quantity.
