Hello there !

00.30 when he said portwall , what does it mean ? cylinder head valve port ?

and also this is applied just for direct injection engines ? or its same for older engine's with port injection.

thanks!

Hello,

Welcome to the HPA forum.

Unfortunately I can't find the exact context you referred to but generally we refer to the port wall as been the inside surface of the intake runner down to the valve irrespective of port or GDI engines.

In port injection engines a certain quantity of fuel can condense on the port wall and this needs to be compensated for using accel enrichment strategies etc. however some port 'wetting' is desirable in NA engines. As an example using high amounts of overrun fuel cut can cause the ports to dry out which results in lean transients on the next throttle application. The same is true for hybrid Port/GDI engines.

GDI engines don't have the same issues since the fuel is primarily injected on the compression stroke but we could see instances where hot, humid charge air can condense on the cooler port walls but this would be a rather niche set of circumstances.

There are Acceleration Enrichment and Transient tuning courses that cover this in further detail.

Regards,

Scott
