On an engine with ITBs and two stage VVT - looking for a sanity check on a Jaguar V6 AJ30 project with a DTA T8+ ECU which is running a rough base map so far - is a good starting point for end of injection (EOI) timing in the region of 60 degrees before the inlet valve opening (IVO) ?
Its my first adventure with an aftermarket ECU. I expect as loads and/or rpm increases that the 60 deg before IVO can be reduced and the outcome measured on a dyno, but at this stage I just want a sane and safe baseline value. The two stage VVT (inlet) on the AJ30 works on the basis of IVO at 360 BTDC in the retarded position and 330 BTDC in the advanced position. For reference to that, 0 degrees BTDC is the start of the power/combustion stroke.
In the advanced position it overlaps a little with the exhaust valve timing... which begs another sanity check question - am I right in using the retarded position for best starting and idle - then go advanced for best torque at say 1100-1200rpm until ~4krpm to follow OE behaviour for now before switching back to retarded mode for higher power ?
