Hi,
I am pretty new in this forum and have a question where I do not get an answer by google/youtube.
It is more a question for people with experience.
I have an aftermarket ECU, called MD35 from KMS.
I would like to tune my car myself and the biggest problem (as you can guess) is ignition/knocking.
In the next days, I will buy a knock detection monitor, which I will connect to my ECU for security reasons.
Nevertheless, when I watch videos where people get some knock (provoked or accidentally), they see it on the monitor and correct the ignition.
But now my question:
Often I read "knocking destroys your engine!" At which level knocking is destructive?
I understand when you permanently have knock and drive aggressive ignition, it will result in damages.
But how bad is it for an engine, when you get knock for some short time, especially under high boost and high RPM?
Do I have to provoke some knock (for short time) in order to find the best ignition advance?
Would be very nice to get some feedback in order I will be more confident when starting my first tests.

This short time differs from engine to another as the boost and rpm increases this time will be shorter you should take care at WOT to avoid suffering from knock for long time
Yes I know... the longer the engine knocks, the more is a risk of an engine damage.
Nevertheless this was not really an answer to my querstion.
Do I have to provoke a short time of knock in order to find the best ignition advance?
