where is a good place to source pins only without the plugs

Depends on which ones you are after, as different places are good for different contacts. For Aptiv/Delphi, TE, Amphenol and Molex, here and here are good sources, as well as here and here at times. For Yazaki, Furukawa and Sumitomo here, here and here are good, (although shipping to Australia is pricey for these). For Deutsch Autosport & DTM in Australia, here is great. A mixed selection of contacts can be found here, they are not the best price wise but are based in Australia so shipping is cheap.
