Hello everyone!
As I understand, there are two general ways to do "t-joint" for wires:
- cut a "main" wire and make joint with a "branch" wire using an open barrel splice
- remove insulation from a "main" wire and make a "knot" (with variations) with a "branch" wire (see an attached picture to understand what I mean)
It's often necessary to do extensions for a stock ECU harness (for gauges, loggers, and so on), so I have a dilemma every time: to cut or not to cut? On one side I afraid to cut a stock harness, on the other side I hate the second type joint (it's always messy and not reliable for my opinion).
So what the proper way to extend exists harnesses?

No way you should be doing what is in your picture. Cut it and crimp it. You have to cut it to get shrink on it anyhow.
