Getting ahead of myself but curious what software do you recommend to design and test the harness?
Not so much design, but document. I use OpenOffice Draw to create harness layout diagrams, and a spreadsheet to document the wiring at each connector.
I use KiCad, an open-source PCB design software, but it works quite well for harnesses. I also keep Excel spreadsheets for individual connectors when necessary.
HPA have an recent article out about this. I have been using Harness.design recently and I find it good and improves every update.
