as with all people here i am trying to learn the skill of mapping and flashing, I have already started to to watch the vids and i am picking up bits here and their.
My question is a basic one. What options are there for flashing an Delphi MCP 555 ( 2008 Jaguar X-Type 2.2D) other than the BDM100 method, I have read that KESS is capable over the obd, but is there another tool available that can do the same job or is BDM the only way forward?

It depends on the exact ECU you've got in the Jag, usually the dpf models introduced in 2008 are bdm only, these are fitted with the ECU DCR-R0412 where as the non-dpf models can be done through the diagnostic port, they have the ECU DCR-R0411.
As the dpf model overlapped with the non-dpf model you might find that this is where the confusion is found with the Kess system
