Hi guys,

I need help with my project, i am not sure which ignition timing tables should be adjusted for knock on 08 JDM Subaru.

On a stock ecu? You will have several timing maps for cruise, non cruise and AVCS also on top of this you will have your IAM (Igntion advance multiplier) and knock correction tables. These all get added on top of each other and can get quite confusing.

I suggest to start watch this webinar about Subaru ignition timing

https://www.hpacademy.com/previous-webinars/088-subaru-ignition-timing-ecutek/

I generally will set my knock advance max to something like 2 or 5 degrees on the whole table on boost and tweak my main timing maps. The factory knock advance maps move around a lot which can cause erratic ignition angles which is quite noticeable on the logger and on the dyno.

Thanks for your response,

To be more detailed i am attempting to tune my 08 jdm subaru wrx/s-gt, there have been a couple light mods done to i and i am trying to finally pull things together after waiting for a good tuner to assist me. so far i have been able to rescale my MAF to with in 5% in each AF Learning #1 (a, b, c & d) stored. The the feedback correction has been registering knock for engin loads 0.55 to as high as 1.01 (1500 - 2500 RPM) while in close loop status. I have been using the reflashing course as my guide and be came stuck because i was unsure which timing maps should be adjusted to stop the knock. i should also add i am using an open source product and depend on the engines knock sensor for knock dection.

So back ground on the car:

Stock internals

Process west TMIC

Perrin panel filter

Tomioka TD06 20g

3" downpipe

2.95 axel back greedy exhaust

Up pipe and headers are stock 04 subaru STI

Grimspeed EBC (not tuned correctly to make stock boost levels as yet, logos shows it has been under boosting so far)

DW 265 fuel pump

Yes i know, its a Frankenstein project.

Lastly in your opinion what peak boost should i be aining for with my size turbo untill i get some injectors? I have read in a forum around 8 psi. Thanks again for your assistance.

Forgot to mention i did watch the webinar and it has given me an idea where to look. My timing tables are different to the ones shown but i will experiment based on a tuned ADM 08 subaru wrx map i saw with similar tables.

Can you put up a screen shot of what timing maps you have.

You should have avcs cruise and none cruise maps. These are the main ones you need to alter to stop knock.

Although as mentioned it also depends on your IAM, knock advance and retard tables as well as these all add on top.

I personally also wouldn't be using the factory knock system and data logging for knock detection, it is always recommend to have you won independent knock gear to verify the knock the ECU is picking up.

Also don't get confused with the knock advance and retard.

Maybe put up a screen shot of you timing tables and a log showing knock

I have been using feedback knock correction and fine learning knock correction during my logs.

I n my last log i have reduced the timing by4° accross all the ingnition advance tables within the loads and RPM i was previously seeing knock( as high as -7°). The feedback knock correction registers 0 but as i go out of that rand and boost begings to buil the fine learing knock correction registered -1.20°.
