Hi,
I have just finished sorting out the wiring on my Nissan S15 with SR20DET on stock internals but a few external upgrades.
I made a new engine wiring harness using the Haltech premium harness, running on an Elite 1500. Finally got to the point where I can try start the engine but it won't start.
When I try to crank, the engine will fire a few times but won't actually start. I also get a strong smell of unburnt fuel out the exhaust, so I know there is some fuel going in. I have checked the TDC offset angle with a timing light and the stock 109 degrees seems correct. I am getting a 'home position' trigger error, but I have checked the haltech oscilloscope and it all looks perfect - every single home position tooth visible and each of the 4 trigger slots showing correctly as different sizes. I have done the modification Haltech suggests to use only one of the four core shielded cables for the CAS.
I have checked my trigger wiring which is correct and I have tried retarding/advancing timing, increased/decreased base cranking fuel output, tried adding 360 degrees to my trigger offset. Nothing I try seems to work!
This is the first time I have done any of this. I am used to carbs and distributor tuning so I know how engines work, but I'm new to ECU tuning. However surely after checking the basics it should just be like any engine?!
Any advice would be greatly appreciated, as I'm tearing my hair out trying to get this thing to run. I've killed a starter motor trying to start it so many times (the thing was a bit sticky at times anyway so no real loss)! I don't have any logs but can take one if need be.
Please help!
Thanks
Ben
Engine spec:
Stock internal SR20DET
Stock injectors, set correctly in NSP
Audi red coil packs, dwell set to recommended time by Haltech on their website
Bosch 60mm DBW all calibrated and working (however base TPS when cranking stays at 18%, is that right?)
Deleted stock IACV
Garrett G25-550 with Hypergate 45 and MAC boost control solenoid
