hi all.
im in the field of tuning my gc8 wrx without a air temp fitted basically running oem factory componets but adding a link ecu to tune.
my question is i believe the factory MAF sensor does have input internal to detect air temp but not being able to view any live readings through the link g4x my guess to undertsand the output signal be from AN VOLT 2 but not sure if that works.
is there way round it to tune this without air temp sensor added to the tune.
setting up my fuel load to MODELLED- will this tune the car to suit MAF system.
any tips would be much appricated!
You will need to fit an air temp sensor into the manifold or pipe work close to it. Im pretty sure the V6 MAF does not have an internal temp sensor, but even if it did, having an air temp sensor before the turbo and intercooler is not useful for speed density.
thanks for the feed back, how would this work with factory ecu software provided to tune oem ecu, in saying eg - (ecu flash) etc of software programs to tune factory ecu using oem componets is there a way round the factory system componets or do they also require IAT temps fittment also to tune out of oem factory tune provided by manufacture.
questions may sound invalid but trying to still understand tuning side of things and what works and doesn't etc using aftermarket ecu to oem tuning software
The stock ECU likely does it's entire air calculation based on the MAF sensor output. If an aftermarket ECU can use the MAF, then you would keep the MAF and tune it the same way. If the aftermarket / standalone ECU uses speed density, then you need to add some way to measure the manifold air temperature, and the manifold pressure if the speed-density method of tuning is to be used.
If your intention is to try and switch between ECUs, I would leave the MAF sensor installed for the OEM ECU, either find an aftermarket ECU that can use the MAF or install a secondary harness for the air temp and manifold pressure sensors needed for the aftermarket ECU.
