Hello guys,
After installing my EGT sensors ( at a local shop), i have noticed that the EGT readings are all over the place and i pretty much dont know which reading is right.
i went back to the shop to further investigate and noticed that they are all installed at different distances from the exhaust ports and at different depths inside the exhaust manifold. However we could not change the depth due to the ferrule being pretty much jammed on the EGT sensor.
so right now im relying on the highest temp and would like to know from you experienced folks what is the proper distance from the prots these EGT sensors should be installed, and at what depth?
Also, is there a way to remove these jammed ferrules without damaging the sensor probe? (tried WD-40 but with no effect)
they are installed on a turbo charged car upstream the turbine housing.
I try to install the EGT probles within 2" of the cylinder head. I carefully set the depth to be the center of the exhaust tube. I would order new ferrules, and just cut the existing ones off with a razor saw or Dremel tool cutoff wheel.
I expect EGT differences of less than 25-40 degC. When I have a misfiring cylinder, or other issue, the EGTs will be 100 degC or more off, and I know exactly which cylinder has the issue.
Thanks for the valuable input David, i'll probably plug the existing holes then and install all the probes 2" away from the exhaust ports.
