Hi guys, I've just come across a near complete ej25 long block + stroker kit that's all brand new for less than half the price it was bought for. The crank is an 83mm stroke, making it capable of 2.7L with a 102mm bore. The kit should be able to comfortably handle 600+kw and not blow the budget when everything is said and done.

My concern is that the crazy stroke might make things more difficult than it's worth. A couple things I'm concerned about: the rod ratio being too extreme, bottom end bearings being left with less structural support (I think some machining needs to be done to make room for the crank), extra machining costs for putting in the darton sleeves, and potentially high wear rate because of the extreme geometry.

It's not the way I originally wanted to go but the price makes it hard to pass up and I like the idea of having good bottom end power. So I wanted to get some opinions from people that know more than me. Do you know of any 2.6/2.7L examples? Do you know of any major issues with this kind of setup? Would it be worth buying the kit and swapping the crank for something more commonly used? Let me know what you think.

High. I'm not a Subaru head (although I've got 1.5 4wd Impreza with 2L swopped engine) but I'm running Mitsubishi Airtrek 4g64 engine which has 100mm stroke and 1.56 RS ratio. It easily reves up to 8000 RPM. I took it apart after beating it up with 3.4 Bar of peak boost and 4.5 thousand miles of pure racing- didn't see any bore wear bring abused for a couple of years with best ET 9.5

In your case RS is going to be the same -130mm rod center-to-center length with 83 mm stroke but you can rev it much higher then 8000 rpm since piston mean speed is less than 26-27 m/sec providing good quality racing oil will be used.

The only issue I see is the bore size being too big which will probably require sleeves.

Other than that it should be just fine...

A friend of mine is using stroker on his Subaru Forester making ET 8.8

Yo, I don't have much to add this but I am also interested in making a 2.7L EJ for my STi. I asked Dewey from IAG and Graham from Boosted Performance Tuning about it, they talked about how it would effects the stroke would have on dwell time.

If I were you I'd jump on that stroker setup and come back with your findings.
