Newbie question here. I have a Manley crank that came with a woodruff key. What is the best method of installing it? It is just tapped in with a mallet?

Yup, it's just a case of locating the woodruff key and gently tapping it into place with a plastic or brass mallet. They can be a little fiddly to get them started but it's not too tricky.
Nylon mallet
Somewhere with a very clear floor for several feet all around you so when it flies out you can find it again!
