hey y’all, i’m turboing my k24a2 so i have it pulled to refresh a bunch of things. I have good compression and leak down test although i’m not sure about the leak down tester cause it seemed too good to be true it was 6% leakage or below on each cylinder so i suspect it’s wrong because it was a cheap tester. i burn a lot of oil so i figured it was either the rings or the valve seals. i just took the head off and i do have piston ring wash and there’s a bit of side to side play but i’m not sure how much is normal. The cylinder walls look good to me. Can i just spray cleaner down the cylinder to try and clean the rings because i don’t really want to remove pistons and use new rings and hone in case i mess it up.
How about compression test first?
i’ve got 190-200 through all 4 cylinders. compression was good
Well, rings seem to be ok if they seal that good. It's going to be better for turbo application since pressure will be pushing them even more against cylinder wall surface... The only question remains there is the ring gap big enough for higher temperatures?
